Definition 1
Das Honorar ist die Vergütung freiberuflicher Leistungen, beispielsweise von Künstlern, Anwälten, Ärzten und Architekten. Das Wort kommt ursprünglich aus dem Lateinischen von "honorarium" (Ehrengeschenk) und dies leitet sich von "honor" (Ehre) ab. Da Freiberufler keinen Lohn erhalten, sie sind schließlich frei, aber auch nicht von der Luft alleine leben können, nehmen sie nur diese "Geschenke" an. Bei Schauspielern und Fotomodellen wird das Honorar auch als Gage bezeichnet.
