Brussels Representative Office

Brussels Representative Office

Since 1988, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) has been represented in the EU’s capital through its Brussels Representative Office, which is integrated into the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union. In the early years, the Brussels Representative Office focused on the challenge of Austria’s accession to the European Union and the introduction of the euro. Today, it mainly promotes the further development of the European Union and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), in which the OeNB participates as an equal partner.

A fundamental task of the Brussels Representative Office is to strategically collect and process information on issues relevant to the OeNB’s work: events, institutional and political progress within the EU, the ESCB and the Economic and Monetary Union, financial market integration. For this purpose, the office maintains a large communication network including EU institutions (European Commission, European Council, European Parliament), national central banks and local interest groups.

As part of their public relations work, the employees of the Brussels Representative Office regularly hold lectures for visiting groups at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union. Moreover, the office organizes central banking-related events, which also serve as a forum to present OeNB publications to an international readership.

As a service for OeNB employees, the Brussels Representative Office arranges business trips to and appointments in Brussels.
