The Cashier’s Division is the OeNB’s main cash office. Together with the branch offices and the GSA cash services company, it supplies the economy with banknotes and coins as needed and ensures that the currency in circulation is of high quality.
The Cashier’s Division primarily deals with
- Planning, ordering, receiving and – together with GSA – distributing euro banknotes printed by Oesterreichische Banknoten- und Sicherheitsdruck GmbH and euro coins minted by Münze Österreich AG.
- Operating schilling-euro exchange counters for the public
- Training currency experts
- Coordinating cooperation with subsidiaries
- Safekeeping banknotes and coins in vaults
- Destroying unfit and called-in banknotes
- Processing submitted mutilated banknotes and counterfeits before and after they are analyzed by the National Analysis Center (NAC).
- Serving as a National Counterfeit Center (NCC)
- Submitting mutilated and called-in coins to Münze Österreich AG
- Reporting outcomes to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the submitter of the banknote, in compliance with the Federal Act on the Oesterreichische Nationalbank
