Schilling banknotes with limited exchange periods (redemption period)

Schilling banknotes that were legal tender at the time of the euro changeover have an indefinite exchange period. Earlier schilling series can be exchanged for free at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank within a limited exchange period ending 20 years after they lost legal tender status. Those series include the following two banknotes with the following limited exchange periods:



ATS 500 – Otto Wagner

ATS 500  (III. Form) – Otto Wagner

ATS 1000 – Erwin Schrödinger

ATS 1.000  (IV. Form) –  Erwin Schrödinger

Schilling banknotes that can no longer be exchanged into euro (called-in banknotes)

The exchange period of 20 years for all Schilling banknotes issued before 1983 has expired. This means that these banknotes can no longer be exchanged into euro at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank.

 

Below you can see the images of banknotes that can no longer be exchanged into euro. Please note that this is a representative list that does not include all the banknotes issued by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank or its predecessors since 1816.
