Balance of payments, financial account and country classification
The balance of payments is a statistical statement that summarizes, for a specific period, the economic transactions of an economy with the rest of the world. The balance of payments breaks down into two major parts, a real economy section and a financial section. Real transactions are primarily depicted in the current account, while financial transactions are mainly captured by the financial account.
The table "Balance of Payments – Country Classification" contains examples of other data series for individual countries accessible in the section "External Sector in Detail" of the OeNB’s Dynamic Statistical Database. Like in this sample table, the respective data series contain annual values. As data collection methods and definitions vary, time series may contain data breaks.
