comment The wholesale price index is calculated on the basis of a Laspeyres index (2005=100). The source of the data is a monthly survey among 220 wholesale establishments. The index is calculated on the basis of 1,400 price quotations for the 387 commodities that make up the basket of goods in the survey. It covers consumer as well as investment and intermediate goods. The proportion of total wholesale covered varies according to the different groups of goods . The basket contains only goods that are usually sold by wholesale establishments, and excludes those that are distributed directly by manufacturers or importers. Services are not included. The wholesalers¿ selling prices (excluding VAT and import or export duties) are collected on the 15th of each month. The weights for the 61 groups, which reflecting the ÖCPA (the Austrian version of the Classification of Products by Activities in the European Union) categories, are based on the results of the Structural Business Statistics of 2003 for wholesale trade.
