Technical cooperation

Joint Vienna Institute

For more than 20 years, the OeNB has been providing training and consultancy services to central bank staff from countries in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe (CESEE) as well as in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) that have made or are making the transition to full and competitive market-based economies.

The OeNB’s active role in the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI) represents a mainstay of its technical central bank cooperation activities. The JVI, which was founded in 1992, is primarily sponsored by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the OeNB. OeNB staff experts regularly share their expertise in JVI courses and workshops on central banking-related topics. Beyond imparting knowledge, such training is designed to provide participants with an international forum for exchanging opinions and experience as well as with long-term networking opportunities.

Together with other national central banks of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB), the OeNB has contributed to programs for EU candidate countries and potential candidate countries in the Western Balkans as well as for the Russian central bank. These programs are financed by the EU and coordinated by the European Central Bank.

Finally, the OeNB organizes technical cooperation-related study and information visits.
