STUZZA

Studiengesellschaft für Zusammenarbeit im Zahlungsverkehr

Studiengesellschaft für Zusammenarbeit im Zahlungsverkehr GmbH (STUZZA), the Austrian Research Association for Payment Cooperation, performs research and manages projects to develop payment systems and banking standards. STUZZA is owned by the OeNB (25%) and the large Austrian banks. The shareholders’ interest is to make payments in Austria cheaper by improving efficiency and applicable standards.

STUZZA was founded in 1991 as a joint platform of Austrian banks to elaborate innovative standards and organizational blueprints for electronic payments, e.g. to further develop the e-payment standard (eps), which is an online payment method of Austrian banks, or to implement an e-mandate solution.

The prime objective of STUZZA project groups is to reduce the cost of payments in Austria through harmonization and stepped-up automation while improving customer service. Irrespective of their different business goals, bank representatives and independent experts cooperate in STUZZA to evolve technical and organizational standards and to develop agreed rules for implementation by banks.

STUZZA is also closely involved in the establishment of a single euro payments area (SEPA) in Europe.
