comment The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) is calculated on the basis of a Laspeyres index (2015=100). The data used in the calculation are collected in a monthly survey (random sampling) among some 220 wholesale companies. The calculation is based on 1,400 price quotations for the 384 commodities that make up the basket of goods in the survey, covering consumer as well as investment and intermediate goods. Each group of goods has a different share in total wholesale trade. The basket only contains goods normally sold by wholesale companies; services and goods that are sold directly by manufacturers or importers are not included. Data on wholesale prices (excluding VAT and import or export duties) are collected on the 15th day of each month. The weights for the 61 index groups, which reflect the categories of ÖCPA 2008 (the Austrian version of the statistical classification of products by activity in the European Economic Community ), are based on the results of the 2013 Structural Business Statistics on wholesale companies’ sales profiles.
