comment | This item reflects net transactions related to special drawing rights (SDRs). The SDR is an international reserve asset created by the IMF that is fully convertible. Allocations or cancelations of SDRs are not recorded as transactions in this position only actual payments in SDRs with the IMF and its members are recorded. These transactions are linked to loans extended by the IMF to member countries. Transactions are valued at market prices. Balance of payments (flow): Positive balance: capital outflow/export. Negative balance: capital inflow/import. Net changes in stocks regarding the international investment position (IIP) might be caused by transactions, valuation effects (price- and exchange rate effects) and reclassifications. By definition, reserve assets only consist in assets and thus represent net assets. |
