At end-2001 the amount of divisional schilling coins in circulation, which were legal tender until February 28, 2002, was EUR 2.487 billion.

² These base metal coins are face-value euro coins that have been legal tender in the entire euro area since January 1, 2002. Therefore, the OeNB's holdings of coins can include both euro coins issued by the OeNB and Münze Österreich as well as euro divisional coins minted in other countries of the euro area.
