Description:

This table shows how consumers rate the state of the economy, the buying climate, saving intentions, price trends and their own finances – factors which correlate closely with other economic measures. A composite indicator constructed from the responses measures the level of confidence households have in the performance of the economy and is thus a key leading indicator for consumption growth; see table 7.12.

Methodology:

The consumer confidence survey, which has been conducted since 1995, is a telephone survey of a representative sample of 1,500 men and women aged 15 or older.
