About the exhibition
At the heart of the exhibition are individuals from different periods of history, each sharing their own money story. Through their perspective, visitors gain insight into how people experienced the economic challenges and opportunities of their time. Their stories illustrate how money has shaped everyday life, trade, politics and social change – and how every generation has had to rethink money in response to new circumstances.
The special exhibition at OeNB West spans more than two millennia and demonstrates how closely economic developments are linked to political decisions and societal transformations. From Roman coinage reforms and medieval trade to early modern financial crises, paper money, credit cards and digital currencies, the exhibition traces the evolution of money across the centuries.
The objects on display invite visitors to discover money as a reflection of human history: a medium of trust, innovation and resilience in times of change.
