Organisation
The OeNB has a clearly defined structure that makes its tasks transparent and easy to understand. This organisational set-up ensures that decisions are made in a balanced, controlled and forward-looking manner.
How the OeNB is organised
Legally speaking, the OeNB is a stock corporation. Its shares are 100% government-owned. Nevertheless, we are fully independent and operate without political interference. Our Governing Board is responsible for the overall running of the OeNB and for conducting our business. The General Council is the supervisory board of the OeNB. It advises the Governing Board.
To represent its interests abroad, the OeNB maintains a Brussels Representative Office. As a central bank, the OeNB is bound by many legal rules. The law ensures that we can make independent decisions about our institution, staff and finances. It is important that we are independent so we can do our work free from political influence and with a clear focus on long-term stability.
