Diversity & inclusion

Diversity, inclusion and accessibility are core values of the OeNB. We promote equal opportunities, a respectful working environment and equal access for everyone.

Working together for a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace

The OeNB is committed to equal treatment, diversity and inclusion. We strive to foster a working culture that values diversity, prevents discrimination, provides equal opportunities for all employees and promotes a respectful working environment.

  • Equal treatment:
All people are entitled to equal rights and dignity, regardless of their background, gender, age, religion or sexual orientation.
  • Diversity:
Different perspectives foster innovation, challenge established ways of thinking and contribute to better outcomes (Study). Diverse teams achieve stronger results because they question assumptions, think more creatively and develop a broader range of solutions. This innovative strength helps drive continuous development.
  • Inclusion:
A safe and respectful working environment.

As a public institution, we are aware of our responsibility. By reflecting and promoting diversity both within the OeNB and in our external activities, we strengthen our credibility and help create structures that are fairer, more sustainable and more closely aligned with the society we serve.

As part of the European System of Central Banks, we also fully support the ESCB & SSM Equality, diversity and inclusion charter .

To further strengthen these efforts, the OeNB established a new section – Diversity and Equality – in September 2025. The section develops, coordinates and implements strategic initiatives and provides the institutional framework for:

  • the Sustainability Office and corporate environmental management;
  • diversity, equal treatment, the promotion of women, open working groups on equal opportunities issues and staff networks;
  • inclusion.

OeNB’s equal opportunities officers

Since 2014, the Austrian Federal Equal Treatment Act has applied to the OeNB. Equal opportunities officers have since been appointed by the OeNB Governing Board.

The OeNB’s equal opportunities officers serve as trusted contacts and points of contact for issues relating to discrimination, mobbing and harassment. They perform their role independently and are not subject to instructions. They are supported by open working groups on equal opportunities and staff networks focusing on the dimensions of origin, gender, age and sexual orientation.

Our working groups and networks

  • Connecting Cultures

People from 41 nations work at the OeNB. Connecting Cultures provides opportunities for exchange and dialogue regardless of nationality, religion or ethnic background. The network promotes intercultural understanding and raises awareness of cultural diversity.

  • OeNB Women's Forum

The OeNB is firmly committed to gender equality and actively promotes equal opportunities. Through flexible working arrangements, measures to promote women and balanced representation in committees and decision-making bodies, we help create fair conditions for everyone.

  • Young@OeNB

Demographic change presents both challenges and opportunities for the OeNB. As experienced colleagues retire, we actively support younger employees and foster exchange between generations.

  • OeNBunt

As a public institution, we are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where LGBTIQ+ people feel welcome, valued and able to thrive free from discrimination or disadvantage.

  • Disability representatives

The OeNB actively supports the inclusion of people with disabilities and promotes a working environment where everyone can participate on an equal basis.

Accessible access to the OeNB website

The OeNB places great importance on digital accessibility. Our aim is to make our website as accessible and easy to use as possible for everyone. To achieve this, the OeNB follows the international standards set out in the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines” (WCAG) and continually works to reduce barriers and improve accessibility. Measures include:

  • Keyboard navigation: the entire website can be used without a mouse – including navigation and forms.
  • High colour contrast: strong contrasts improve readability.
  • Responsive design: the website automatically adapts to different devices and screen sizes.
  • Alternative text for images: all images include descriptive alternative text.
  • Easy-to-read language and metadata: content is written as clearly as possible and includes information that supports screen readers and search engines. Separation of content and design: the website uses CSS-based layouts and does not rely on tables for formatting.

Accessible access to the OeNB building

The OeNB’s commitment to accessibility extends beyond its website. All publicly accessible areas of the OeNB’s main building are fully accessible. Individual solutions are available for employees with special needs. The OeNB’s disability representatives are available at any time to answer questions relating to disability and work.

  • Public areas: all publicly accessible areas in the main building are accessible.
  • Individual solutions: tailored measures are provided where needed.
  • Contact persons: disability representatives are available at any time to provide support and guidance.
