Important note
Preventing money laundering and terrorist financing
To prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, certain financial transactions are subject to statutory requirements.
- For transactions amounting to EUR 15,000 or more, customers must provide proof of identity if they do not have an ongoing business relationship with the OeNB. This rule also applies if the total amount is split across several related transactions.
- If a transaction is carried out on behalf of another person, proof of the originator’s identity must also be provided.
- Customers must also disclose the source of the funds used and provide adequate supporting documentation. Examples of supporting documents include proof of income, bank statements, purchase agreements, documents relating to an inheritance or documents relating to professional or business activities.
These measures help to detect illegal money flows and strengthen the security of the financial system.
