Vincenzo Ventapane

around 1730 to around 1800

Almost no biographical details are known about Vincenzo Ventapane. This violinmaker worked in Naples from 1750 to 1800. He competed with the Gagliano family, which dominated the trade until the late 19th century. Ventapane’s instruments exhibit similarities to those made by the Gagliano family. He used a broad, flat-arched model that has a considerable sound potential. The wood quality is consistently good, and the varnish is generally gold-orange with a tendency toward brown shades.
