Legal basis:

Austria: Article 44 Nationalbank Act, Exchange Control Act 2004; International: SDDS and Articles of Agreements of the IMF, ECB guideline, EU regulation.

Methodology:

Expenditures are primarily based on a household survey (N=12.000). Receipts are mainly based on the statistics of overnight stays, which are combined with the results of a survey on expenditures at airports, hotels and places of interest. Mirror data of the partner countries and administrative sources are used for same-day visitors, border workers, students, medical patients and for quality checks.

Reporting institutions:

The household survey is conducted by Statistics Austria on behalf of the OeNB. Overnight stays are reported by local governments and owners of accommodations, respectively. Expenses are based on the expenditure survey of international tourists and excursionists.

ISO country and currency codes, ISIN code, IMF Balance of Payments Manual 6.
