Stardust – The world of gold

Gold was created over five billion years ago – formed in explosions of supernovae and collisions between neutron stars. It is quite literally stardust. Over time, it was carried to earth by meteorite impacts, where it has long been associated with the sun, the divine and luxury. To this day, it remains a timeless symbol of wealth, power, status and immortality.

The exhibition at the Money Museum of the OeNB explores this precious metal across ten themed sections, from gold as jewellery and as a monetary reserve asset to its use as a means of payment, in medicine, and much more.
