About the summit
The Global Payment Fraud & Financial Crime Summit – Vienna 2026 is a high-level international forum addressing current and emerging threats, strategic responses and international cooperation in the fight against payment fraud and financial crime. It brings together senior representatives from central banks, supervisory authorities, law enforcement agencies, international organisations, financial institutions and technology companies.
Payment fraud and financial crime are becoming increasingly sophisticated, cross-border and technology-driven. AI-enabled fraud, social engineering, digital platforms and globally operating criminal networks are reshaping the threat landscape and creating new challenges for consumers, financial institutions, public authorities and payment systems.
The increasing complexity, internationalisation and professionalisation of fraudulent activities require closer cooperation both across jurisdictions and between public authorities and the private sector. Addressing these challenges requires a coordinated approach to fighting financial crime, combining effective prevention and technological innovation with a shared understanding of emerging threats and effective countermeasures. Strengthening international cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and experience is therefore essential to an effective collective response.
Under the summit theme “Fraud is global. Prevention must be too. – Building trust in payments through global cooperation, innovation and fraud prevention”, discussions will focus on consumer protection, international cooperation as well as technology and innovation. The programme will explore AI-driven fraud and platform risks, international cooperation against financial crime, AI and digital identity in fraud prevention, emerging fraud typologies and the role of central banks and market infrastructures in strengthening confidence in payments. Policymakers and experts will examine current developments and emerging threats, discuss regulatory, operational and technological challenges and exchange experiences, best practices and innovative approaches.
The summit will feature keynotes, expert talks and high-level panel discussions with experts and senior representatives from the OeNB, other Eurosystem central banks, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), INTERPOL, Europol, the OSCE and the Bank of Thailand, alongside supervisory and regulatory authorities, international organisations, financial institutions and the technology sector. Bringing together public and private sector perspectives, the summit aims to foster the international exchange of knowledge and experience, strengthen cross-border cooperation and encourage dialogue on regulatory, operational and technological responses to an evolving fraud landscape.
As the central bank of Austria and member of the Eurosystem, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) is committed to promoting secure, efficient and trusted payments. Hosting the summit, the OeNB reaffirms its role as a facilitator of international dialogue and cooperation, contributing to the development of effective strategies for preventing payment fraud and combating financial crime.
