Presentation of the World Bank Global Economic Prospects report

Abstract and speaker biography
The World Bank’s Global Economic Prospect report will be released on January 11, 2022. The World Bank expects global growth to decelerate in 2022-23 with advanced economies returning to and emerging markets and developing economies remaining markedly below pre-pandemic trends. The World Bank stresses downside risks to the outlook, in particular, a more virulent pandemic, further supply disruptions, a de-anchoring of inflation expectations, financial stress, climate-related disasters, and a weakening of long-term growth drivers. The presentation will focus on the challenges of resolving high debt after the pandemic and discuss what lessons can be learnt from past debt restructuring agreements. Ohnsorge will also present the World Bank’s analysis of the implications of the pandemic for global inequality, and the causes and implications of commodity price cycles. The webinar will put an emphasis on Central, Eastern and Southeastern European economies.
